Throwing a thought into the ring for November 2012
My backup is Murphy's Law that reads, If anything can go wrong, it will.
As incumbent, New Jersey Democrat, Robert Torricelli, ran into problems with ethics, something Democrats actually worried about a decade ago. The Congressional U.S. Senate seat he held was up for grabs in the election of November of 2002. Torricelli, therefore, was seen by his party as possibly being beaten by the Republican candidate, Doug Forrester. The Democrats feared New Jersey independent voters could bolt to the Republican candidate while some Democrat voters might simply not show up at the polls.
But something was fishy in the air back then, and it wasn't the New Jersey Shore. It was the Democrat National Committee smelling a loss of a liberal vote in the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C.
So for the (cough) good of the party, Torricelli pulled out of the race "for personal reasons" while Democrats resurrected their good-old-boy Frank Lautenberg out of retirement. And it worked, with the white-haired, elderly grandfather Lautenberg coming to the rescue, beating the Republican candidate handily by 10 points.
Ten years later there is again a smell of something fishy in the air as the Democrats have another candidate, this one a president, with potential impeachment problems swirling around him later in 2012.
It started with the Obama DOJ's Fast & Furious program, which involved the murder of a border agent along with maybe 100 law enforcement officials in Mexico. The accidental discovery revealed weapons were being bought by the DOJ from American gun dealers, then quietly transported across the Mexican border by arranged straw men.
However, for a program by the DOJ said to be designed to catch criminals coming across the border, the weapons had no tracking system. Some were even military grade. It was soon looking as if the guns were really meant for Mexicans to be injured or killed so the Obama administration could then go after American gun dealers to secure the 2012 election with his far-left base. The Obama administration would then accuse those dealers of selling weapons that would have murdered civilians and Mexican law enforcement personnel.
But when an American border patrol agent, Brian Terry, was killed by one of the guns taken across the border via Fast & Furious, ATF whistle blowers came to the surface for their fallen bro, informing what the DOJ had done under the leadership of an Obama appointee, Eric Holder. One whistle blower was reported to be fired while another was reassigned to shut him up. But it was too late; the news of the secret program reached members of Congress.
With over a year passing and the fallen agent's family furious over the death of their loved one by released DOJ weapons, the Congressional investigation is finally coming to a head.
This is happening as serious leaks in America's security suddenly have been given to the liberal press by someone high in the Obama administration at the White House, the details looking as if the leaks were to prop up Obama's image. However, at the same time the leaks were going to cause informers to stay away, their invaluable information no longer protecting America from terrorist attacks. Even Democrats have become openly up in arms at endangering the security of the United States and its citizens.
This all was exacerbated by Obama's earlier arranging of some very willing Hollywood producers to have private access to America's secret Navy Seal treasures who captured bin laden. The purpose was for these eager Hollywood professionals, along with Sony, a strong Obama backer, to create a movie on Obama's capture. And what timing did Obama and Hollywood agree to? The production is scheduled for completion and release to theaters across America by early October 2012, one month before the presidential election!
While Obama also released confidential information about the raid on bin laden, Pakistan officials added one and one and identified the doctor who had helped the Americans to genetically verify the hit was bin laden. They quickly sent the physician to prison for 33 years while Obama said nothing. It was as if the man had never existed or labeled acceptable collateral damage.
However as Democrats begin to realize, (with all these serious problems surrounding their choice for president), that they may have given Obama too long a leash, it could become necessary in the not-too-distant future for them to convince Obama behind closed doors to pull out of the race at the last minute as if there were an unexpected emergency, maybe even after the rah-rah of the Democrat convention this summer in Charlotte.
So who would replace Obama as the Democrat's candidate for president in the November 2012, like Torricelli was replaced by Lautenberg in New Jersey in the U.S. Senate election of 2002?
I believe it could be Hillary Clinton, her husband, Bill Clinton, already chomping at the bit to be in the White House for a third term, this time as . . . wait for it . . . the First Spouse.
As we watch Slick Willy navigate the political waters, it appears that former president Clinton smells a potential change in candidates for 2012 in the Democrat Party, aided by Obama's narcissism that has caused him to overreach again and again.
As Clinton tries to position the Republican as the winner in November of 2012, as the Democrats believed in New Jersey in 2002, he may have become a little too excited about his wife running for office. Clinton has already told the press the economy needed the Bush tax cuts to stay in place into 2013, going directly against Obama's policy. Then suddenly Clinton backed off, obviously reminded that president Obama is still the candidate of choice . . . at least for now.
In closing, remember that I am throwing this scenario into the ring on the hunch Murphy's Law may be active during this very strange and unusual political year. And I think I may have some believers as November approaches, including a former president who waits in the wings hoping destiny will repeat itself and provide him with another Lautenberg moment.
