Letter to Biltmore Baptist Church

(Original e-mail letter sent on October 10, 2010, re-edited October 13 for this page)

(Biltmore Baptist Church is located south of Asheville, NC, just off of I-26 East)

To Whom it may concern,

As an FYI, my wife and I have been to your fine church several times, the turned-up music and long standing a bit overwhelming for us turning 70-years old next year.  Obviously that is our problem, not yours.

But we had a horrible negative taste when someone at your church a few years ago allowed Heath Shuler to speak on your main stage honoring our troops, no other government official speaking that day.

We don't know if your church is allowing Shuler to get free PR again during this current upcoming election.  But if interested, below are three examples you should know about that approach this subject.

To this end we hope your church makes an effort to continue to search for the truth.

The first example is a new video of Jeff Miller, the U.S. House Republican candidate for the November 2010 election in Western North Carolina, complaining at a meeting in Madison County about Shuler's very dishonest television ad, Miller a local dry cleaning businessman running against the congressman.

The second example is Shuler's YouTube ad Miller is speaking about in the above video, the Shuler ad also on his Web site accusing Miller of helping the Chinese against America.  Miller responded to Shuler's ad saying, I didn't know a dry cleaner from Asheville had so much power

A final example is an information Web page I created to warn local surfers about how Shuler lied "live" on local radio (I heard it for myself at the time in 2006) while Shuler was then campaigning for Congress in 2006, Shuler purposely just a few days before the election saying to the people of WNC he wouldn't vote for Nancy Pelosi as Leader of the House.

But upon arriving in Washington D.C. to serve the people of Western North Carolina, Shuler did the exact opposite

If your organization ran a Moose Lodge, I wouldn't be complaining.  But your organization represents the teachings of Christ, again our having seen Shuler being allowed to use your church for personal recognition.

I believe Paul had written one should avoid EVEN giving the appearance of questionable behavior (evil), and why I question Shuler ever being allowed on your stage when you knew it personally benefited him politically.   If Shuler were an honorable man, he would have avoided the appearances and said no to your request.  But he didn't.

When Dr. Mumpower was later running against Shuler in 2008, Dr. Mumpower refused to take money from the GOP because it no longer represented the original Christian [conservative] values that had formed the party. At the same time Shuler, [holding land investments as he allowed himself to sit on the committee that oversights the TVA], accepted millions from Pelosi for his second run for the U.S. House, Pelosi a representative from San Francisco and the most liberal in the House. Pelosi had been placed on Judicial Watch's list in January of 2009 as one of the most corrupt politician in Washington. **

Shuler was brought over from Tennessee by the Democrats to run in WNC under Chicago's Rahm Emanuel's plan to fool conservatives into voting for Democrats under the cover of a "Blue Dog" conservative format in 2006.  Shuler accepted the position, moved to Western North Carolina, and headed for your church, I believe the largest in WNC, giving him the most exposure to Christian voters.

The Asheville Citizen Times joined in the fray to help Shuler in 2008, trashing Mumpower in a political cartoon for not taking GOP money that showed him as having "No Power."  The newspaper wouldn't even attend all of Mumpower's press conferences.  Check this all for yourself with Dr. Mumpower.

And you should know this was the same newspaper that supported Shuler for the U.S. House of Representatives, allowing another cartoon to be published in its opinion section that called a local Asheville business group, representing local businesses such as Miller's, Nazis.

The newspaper had also run a front page article on a teenage terrorist who had killed a "soldier" in Iraq, the paper allowing the terrorist's lawyers to spin the story.  The Asheville Citizen Times never even mentioned that the murdered "soldier" was from North Carolina, leaving a wife and two children in 2002.  I had written the managing editor about the omission, but received no return and saw no article to recognize the sacrifices of this heroic medic.

I hope you understand that my wife and I are just tired of all the lies, hoping to have found better values than we had left in New Jersey, retiring to the mountains seven years ago.

Sincerely, (no reply necessary)

** House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA): Last year House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made the "most corrupt" list for sneaking a $25 million earmark for her husband into a $15 billion Water Resources Development Act passed by Congress. This year, Pelosi ran afoul of federal election law by participating in an illegal advertising campaign funded by Al Gore's non-profit Alliance for Climate protection. The advertisement featuring Pelosi ran at least 300 times nationally, including in the House speaker's district, during campaign season, representing an illegal in-kind contribution to her campaign. Perhaps more disturbing than this incident, however, is the fact that Speaker Pelosi has allowed corruption to run rampant in Congress and has ignored serious incidents of crooked behavior within her own party. Pelosi promised a new era of ethics enforcement during the 2006 campaign and she has failed to deliver. Instead, she continues to protect the worst of the worst of political corruption in the House of Representatives.
