I’m just an ordinary guy retired down here to North Carolina from New Jersey, trying to get a handle on what happened to the America I grew up in. It was a country my Swedish grandparents loved so much they were willing to move away from what they had called home. They had discovered if you don’t find what you like around you maybe it exists somewhere else.
But ninety years later from their making that decision, I know today as their descendant I am not alone with all the Tea Party anger that continues to grow across the country and with books written by former police officers such as Michael Solomon’s title asking, “Where did my America go?”
In fact the blindness of progressives to this coming change has to be evident even to the corner drunk. Who could have missed CNN this week seeing nothing wrong with glowing over video of about 20 people meeting at a coffee house as a fantastic event formed by an Obama campaign operative while last year it had seen tens-of-thousands of people at a Tea Party as an annoyance.
So after reading an article by Kirk Johnson, "States’ Rights Is Rallying Cry for Lawmakers," (March 16, 2010), I am thinking maybe the America I knew is still there hidden among all the garbage, finally ready to get up and take out the trash.
I had seen his article posted in a New York Times’ e-mail today, stunned the Times could actually publish information valuable to "everyone" and not just a few arrogant progressives. As Beck suddenly recognized the other day, I have more people on my e-mail list than the Times has subscribers.
Based on what you have written, I would hope Mr. Johnson would drill down further and ask why is the brand name "conservative" the only one interested in keeping our rights while others (liberals, progressives) seem to enjoy taking them away? Or maybe Beck is right, saying that these are really Communists once the little rubber bands that hold the masks on have been snipped away.
If only conservatives are interested in keeping these rights and not Americans in general, I wonder if America itself really is the conservative brand while those identified as liberals and progressives who love control are the anti-American brand. It is a word most newspaper can't get their tongues around today, letting the cat out of the bag.
It is extremely obvious as more events unfold in our progressive Congress that liberals and progressives don't like the country as it is, seeing others outside their world as an annoyance to wanting to turn America off as if it was as easy as hitting a switch to the kitchen sink’s disposal unit.
I think America (conservative) needs to get past the point of being worried about the names they are called by liberals and progressives and see them for whom they really are. At least Obama wasn’t afraid to be seen as an anti-American, doing so by passing out candy coupons that promised simply minded voters they could have it all for nothing. And where have we heard that before? I guess you would have to ask my immigrating grandparents.
However, don't tell that to the children of progressive who sat outside Berkeley the other day eating the candy, whinning they have to pay MORE to simply get through the doors of an institution that has to pay its bills to stay open. It is the mentality they inherited from their boomer grandparents, the sons and daughters of those who got off those ships and airplanes in 1945 and opined, My kids aren't going to have to go through this character building and love of country stuff!
And 70 years later there sits the trash the so-called greatest generation left behind, America finally having enough of it, rolling up its sleeves and saying to Congress, "I’m sorry, you want to do what?"
